Students act out anti-bullying message at primary schools

Performing arts students from Macclesfield College have been using their creative talents to get an anti-bullying message across to local primary school pupils.

The students, who are on the level 3 BTEC course at the College, devised a series of fun and informative performance workshops to deliver them to year 3 and 4 children at Hurdsfield Primary School.

The performing arts students teamed up with Kirsty Cotton, Community Partnerships Officer for Cheshire Peaks and Plains to create drama scenarios based around bullying and how wrong it is.

Mia-Iola Adam, 16, Owen Whalley, 17, Charlene Salthouse, 16, Georgia Tomlinson, 16, and Sam Perry, 16, attended the school to help the pupils act them out. Each scenario illustrated how wrong it was to bully another person. The students also organised fun warm-up dance activities for the pupils to take part in.

All the students sported sweat-tops branded with an anti-bullying logo specially designed by graphics students at the College.

Course teacher, Maura Shilton, commented, “It was great to work with the school because the pupils were so enthusiastic and our students benefited from gaining valuable work-related learning experience, helping to build their confidence.”
